There is a growing trend of lodges working together to hold joint social events, Ladies Festivals and other charitable activities.  It helps to counter the difficulties that may be experienced by lodges in the same town holding functions on the same day and can therefore help to boost attendances. Also, when seeking to help a local charity or other good cause, two or more lodges working together can achieve more than just one.

As an example of such collaboration, Pharos Lodge No 6967 from Dover and Radnor Lodge No 2587 from Folkestone held a successful joint Ladies Night at the Ramada Hotel in Dover last November at which a significant sum of money was raised for the local branch of Macmillan Cancer Support.

On 23rd January the Masters of the two lodges, Don Heppell (Pharos) and Mike Barnard (Radnor), invited Mrs Christine Hall, of Macmillan Cancer Support, to join them at the Dover Masonic Hall. After a guided tour of the building, including both the Brian Powell and the main lodge rooms, Mrs Hall was presented with a cheque for £750.00 with heartfelt thanks for all the good work carried out by the charity.

Mrs Hall was pleased to receive the donation on behalf of the Deal branch and emphasised that, as the money had been donated to the local branch and not sent to the head office, it would all be used locally. She went on to say that, although her father had been a Freemason, she had little knowledge of who they were or what they did. However, after her tour of the Dover Masonic Centre and learning about Freemasons’ charitable giving, ranging from local needs to disaster relief, she was now eager to spread the word to all who would listen.

Editor’s Postscript: A further consideration, if the good cause falls within the remit of the Cornwallis East Kent Freemasons’ Charity, is that fund-matching may be provided, up to £250 per lodge, to further boost the help that can be given.
